The First Doctor was played by Billy Hard-As-Nails from 1963 - 1966.
After running away from Gallifrey for unspecified reasons (with a little help from Clara Oswald) the first Doctor ended up stuck in 1960's Earth with his grandaughter, Susan-Actually-A-Man/Arkytior/Lady Larn/The Rani.
There, Susan started studying at Coal Hill School; she was frequently mistaken for an autist and got bullied all day errday. Two teachers took note of Susan's crippling autism, Ian Basedton and Barbara Wright, following her (not creepy at all) to her house in a junkyard (not suspicious at all). They end up getting kidnapped by the old man and having wacky adventures together through time and space.
Reminder that one day, I shall come back.
The First Doctor reigned supreme from An Unearthly Child up until The Tenth Planet. He showed up again for The Three Doctors but was pretty knackered by then. Other non-Hartnell appearances include The Five Doctors and Listen.
The First Doctor died from being way too fucking old, and regenerated into The First Meme Doctor.

"One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Goodbye Susan. Goodbye my dear." ~ The Based Doctor leaving Susan to die with us Earth folk. He never came back.
"Damn jews." ~ He might've said "juice" instead, don't judge.
"Have you ever wondered what it's like to be wanderers in the fourth dimension?" ~ The First Doctor's pick-up line.
