ReceptionEdit

ReceptionEdit

The episode is widely regarded as combining the best features of both RTD (skepticism over the character of the Doctor, an almost overwhelmingly misanthropic view of the world, and a keen idea of how to emotionally connect with the viewing audience with just a couple scenes of dialogue) and Moffat (a sense of creeping fear, a monster primarily represented as an interesting filming trick, that can likewise easily be translated to childhood play). Coming right after Forest of the Dead, it thus eases the transition into the imminent Moffat era. Just a shame RTD never wrote for that era, if this is the sort of thing he could have done.
