Smile is the
infamous unfinished Beach Boys album second episode of the Series 10, and it features robots with emojis for faces. It was foretold to be a thing in late 2016 under the title of The Emoji Planet, and naturally the autists on /who/ fanbase (or at least, the rational and mentally sane part of the fanbase) desperately wished that this would turn out to be yet another rumour, like Missy turning out to be the Rani, or there being any more missing episodes out there. But alas, the Moffuck will do his best to make this program a living hell for all but the most retarded Tumblreenas. First he got rid of the hot chick and replaced her with a chips-serving pubic-bush-headed ugo, and then he gave the green light on this shit.
95% of the episode is the Doctor, Pete, and Bill developing their relationship, and 5% is actual action. Oh also emojibots or something. Oh also a city made out of robots. Ralf Little was also incredibly underused.
GRIEF AS PLAGUE
So asBill wants to visit the future and the Doctor wants to get away from Nardole so they end up on some future earth colony where tiny flying robots have eaten all the settlers to death. The colony itself is actually made of the robots and they like it when people are happy and will strip the flesh from your bones when you're sad. Hence, smile! BRAVO BOYCE.
A lot more people are about to wake up and get eaten so the Doctor, Pete, and asBill find themselves in a race against time to sort out the man-eating robot problem before the surviving members of the human race are wiped out. It's a simple premise but works fine.
Mehhhh. Fairly alright compared to In the Forest of the Night. Miles ahead of ItFotN. Bill continues to be the worst companion since Amy, and the Emojibots didn't turn out to be retarded le memery like we all feared. It wasn't excellent. Pete continues to rise in the ranks of beta companions, overcoming Rory to become second-best male companion since Jacked Hardness.
Some kino cinematography. And the design of the colony was pretty good too.
In the end, the emoji robots were not as ham-fisted in to appeal to the kids as we originally thought. They actually added to the plot in a meaningful and interesting way, and they were good spooks. Significantly better than expected, 8/10.
"OMG Y U GUISE ALWAYS GOTTA B NEGATIV U CARNT JUDGE IT YET CUZ IT NOT OWT! U MUST RESURV UR OPINION UNTIL IT AIRS, THEN 1NCE IT DOES AIR KEEP UR OPINION 2 URSELF BECUZ DR WHO IS PERFECT & IF U DISSAGREE THEN SAY SUMTHING NICE! SQUEEEEEEE!"
Yeah, there's a reason why Dimmeh Looming hates this fanbase so much.
Sane, reserved, logical /who/ responseEdit
